• SUR Marketing offers a range of heavy-duty screws called coach screws that are specifically designed for hardwood applications. These screws feature either a square or hexagonal head and have a pointed tip. The entire length of the screw is externally threaded, allowing for efficient fastening.
• To ensure proper installation, coach screws require a pilot hole to be drilled before insertion. This step helps prevent the surface material, particularly wood, from splitting or breaking. The diameter of the pilot hole depends on the type of timber being used. For soft timbers, the pilot hole diameter should be half the diameter of the screw, while for hard timbers, it should be three-fourths of the screw's diameter.
• The pointed end and external threading of coach screws contribute to their stability, preventing them from slipping out of position during fastening. However, it is recommended to use washers along with these screws. Washers not only reduce the impact of the screws on the wood but also facilitate easier removal if necessary.
